Core Subjects & Electives
English Language Arts
At Russell, English Language Arts empowers boys to become confident readers, writers, and communicators who think independently and express ideas with clarity and purpose in both academic work and daily life. Our ELA program builds strong literacy foundations that support courageous thinkers ready to lead.
Math
Math at Russell emphasizes problem-solving, mathematical reasoning, and real-world application, helping boys build confidence and logical thinking skills that support academic success across disciplines. Our approach fosters determination and creativity as students tackle challenges with persistence.
Science
In Science, students explore concepts through hands-on observation and inquiry, strengthening curiosity about the world while learning to think critically and solve problems. This experiential science learning supports our mission to develop resilient, creative young minds ready to thrive academically and beyond.
Sports Exploration
Students explore a wide variety of sports to discover where they excel and what they enjoy most. This class introduces boys to the fundamentals, rules, and teamwork skills of multiple sports while building confidence, cooperation, and a lifelong appreciation for physical activity.

Our school is built on a strong foundation of high expectations for academic achievement for all students. We implement the ACCEL Instructional Model (AIM) which focuses on these key components to achieve strong academic results:
Individualized Instruction
Students participate in a variety of learning activities each day that individualize instruction for each subject area. Students receive whole class instruction, small group instruction, and individual instruction with teachers, technology and other curricular tools.
Certified & Licensed Teachers
Our teachers meet the requirements set forth by the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA): Bachelor’s degree, grade-level teaching license/certificate & ability to demonstrate subject area expertise. Our teachers are supported by trainers and participate in continuous, research-based professional development. Our teachers are accountable for student learning and rewarded for high quality performance.
More Time on Task
Our students receive double the instruction in ELA and Math to provide a strong foundation for all learning. Beginning with full-day Kindergarten, our school also follows a longer school day and school year than many other schools.
Short Cycle Assessments
Student knowledge of academic standards is assessed formally and informally in short cycles by each teacher. Our teachers adjust class-level and individual instruction based on student performance data in these frequent intervals.
Social Studies
Our Social Studies curriculum connects students to history, geography, culture, and civic responsibility, encouraging them to understand their role in community and the wider world. Through inquiry and discussion, boys develop respect, empathy, and the resilience to contribute positively to society.
